I chose to draw this Panda to help me learn techniques of drawing black and white fur. I was also drawn to learn how to draw wood and the background.
Behind the scenes shows part of the layering process used to create drawings with coloured pencils. The paper used for this drawing is Clairefontaine Pastelmat Board, which has a harsh textured surface which requires multiple layers to be added to help fill and smooth the surface to give the impression of the panda’s thick fur. Check out the four images below to see how I worked on each section of the drawing, building up each layer by layer before moving on to the next section.
