Back Story:

My main reason for completing this drawing was my love of horses. In addition to this, I wanted to learn the techniques used to draw the leather and metal on the bridle.

Behind the scenes shows part of the layering process used to create drawings with coloured pencils. The paper used for this drawing is Clairefontaine Pastelmat Board, which has a harsh textured surface that requires multiple layers to be added to help fill and smooth the surface, giving depth to the leather on the bridle.  As usual, I began this drawing with the eye. Check out the images below to see how I worked on each section of the drawing, building up each layer by layer before moving on to the next section.

Pencils: Faber-Castell Polychromos, Caran D’Ache Pablos, Luminance and Museum Aquarelle and Derwent Lightfast Colour Pencils
