Back Story:

Having used Dura-Lar Drafting Film for previous drawings and loved the process, I decided to upgrade from my usual surface and use Grafix Drafting Film for this chestnut horse. Since completing this drawing, I have continued to use Grafix as opposed to the cheaper brands of film.

Behind the scenes shows part of the layering process used to create drawings with coloured pencils. I prefer to start an animal drawing with the eyes. I have only completed one animal drawing, where I did not add the eyes first, and I found it disturbing to look at it without eyes. After that drawing, I always begin with the eyes. I think this drawing is perfect for showing how layers of each section are applied and added to throughout the process.
