I really enjoyed completing this drawing. The photo credit goes to Sue Flood, who has a book called “Emperor the Perfect Penguin”.
Behind the scenes shows part of the layering process used to create drawings with coloured pencils. The paper used for this drawing is Clairefontaine Pastelmat Board, which has a harsh textured surface which requires multiple layers to be added to help fill and smooth the surface to produce an impression of the adult penguin’s feathers and the chick’s down.
