Red Squirrel - March, 2023
Back Story:
This was my second animal drawing. I consider myself lucky to live in an area where I can visit nature reserves and see Red Squirrels. I chose to draw this to find out how to get fluffy textures when drawing fluffy animals. Drawing the tail of this squirrel was great practice in attaining fluffiness.
Behind the scenes shows part of the layering process used to create drawings with coloured pencils. I prefer to draw the eyes first and work on small sections at a time.
Materials Used:
Surface: Clairefontaine Pastelmat Board
Pencils: Faber-Castell Polychromos, Caran D’Ache Pablos, Luminance and Museum Aquarelle and Derwent Drawings and Lightfast Colour Pencils
Equipment: Slice Tool, paintbrush and cotton buds
